Overview

Dental IT Services and Cybersecurity, Nationwide

When your practice management software slows down or your imaging system goes offline, the schedule backs up, patients wait, and production drops. Blue Edge Networks provides concierge IT and cybersecurity to dental practices across the country. We keep your clinical and front-office systems running, protect patient information, and help you meet HIPAA Security Rule requirements.

We don’t sell packages or tiers. We start by learning how your practice runs: your practice management platform, your sensors, X-ray, and CBCT imaging, how many operatories you have, and how your team works. Then we scope the support around that.

The challenges

Challenges We See in Dental Practices

HIPAA Security Rule safeguards.

The HIPAA Security Rule (45 CFR Part 164, Subpart C) requires administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for electronic protected health information (ePHI). The foundation is an accurate and thorough risk analysis (§164.308(a)(1)(ii)(A)), followed by ongoing risk management. Missing or outdated risk analyses come up again and again in HHS Office for Civil Rights enforcement actions.

Uptime for practice management and imaging.

Your practice management software, digital radiography, intraoral cameras, and imaging workstations all depend on each other, often with specific version and driver requirements. One poorly planned update can take an operatory offline.

Ransomware in healthcare.

Healthcare has long been one of the most-targeted sectors for ransomware. Smaller practices get hit too, often through a phishing email or an exposed remote access tool, and an attack can lock up schedules, charts, and images all at once.

Backups that actually restore.

The Security Rule’s contingency plan standard (§164.308(a)(7)) calls for a data backup plan, a disaster recovery plan, and an emergency mode operation plan. Many practices have a backup job running but have never tested a full restore of their practice management database and imaging library.

Vendors and remote access.

Software vendors, imaging support, and billing services often need remote access to your systems. Each connection should be controlled, monitored, and covered by the right agreements.

Busy front desks and shared workstations.

Shared logins, unlocked screens, and phishing emails sent to the front desk are everyday risks in a busy office.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a dental practice need a HIPAA risk analysis?

Yes. The HIPAA Security Rule requires covered entities, including most dental practices, to conduct an accurate and thorough assessment of risks to ePHI and to manage those risks on an ongoing basis. We help you carry out and maintain that work.

Can an IT provider handle HIPAA for us?

HIPAA is an ongoing responsibility of the practice, and no IT provider can promise a particular outcome. We help you meet and support your HIPAA Security Rule requirements with practical safeguards, documentation, and regular review.

Do you support dental practice management and imaging software?

Yes. We work alongside your software and imaging vendors to keep servers, workstations, and integrations stable, and we coordinate updates so they don’t disrupt patient care.

How do you protect a dental office from ransomware?

We use several layers: email filtering, endpoint protection, MFA, timely patching, restricted remote access, staff awareness training, and tested backups kept separate from your main network so you have a path to recovery.

Has the HIPAA Security Rule changed recently?

HHS proposed significant updates to the Security Rule in January 2025, but as of late 2026 they have not been finalized. The current rule remains in effect. We watch for developments so your planning stays current.

Do you work with practices outside Kentucky?

Yes. We serve dental practices nationwide through secure remote support, with on-site help where the engagement calls for it.
