Overview

IT Support and Cybersecurity for Law Firms, Nationwide

Client confidentiality is central to legal practice, and today most of it lives on email, document systems, and cloud apps. Blue Edge Networks provides concierge IT and cybersecurity to law firms across the country. We keep your systems running, your client information protected, and your attorneys focused on practicing law.

We don’t offer one-size-fits-all plans. Every engagement starts with understanding your practice: your practice areas, your document and case management tools, how your attorneys work remotely, and what your clients expect. Then we build support around that.

The challenges

Challenges We See in Law Firms

Technology competence is now an ethical expectation.

Comment 8 to ABA Model Rule 1.1 says lawyers should keep up with “the benefits and risks associated with relevant technology.” Most states have adopted some version of that duty. Few attorneys went to law school to become IT managers, though.

Reasonable efforts to protect client information.

ABA Model Rule 1.6(c) requires lawyers to make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to or disclosure of client information. ABA Formal Opinion 477R (2017) explains that what counts as “reasonable” depends on how sensitive the information is and the risks of how it’s communicated. Some matters call for encryption or other heightened protection.

Breach response obligations.

ABA Formal Opinion 483 (2018) covers what lawyers should do after a data breach or cyberattack: monitor for intrusions, act quickly to stop the breach, figure out what was accessed, and notify current clients when required. Firms without a plan end up building one during a crisis.

Email compromise and wire fraud.

Real estate closings, settlements, and trust account disbursements make law firms prime targets. Attackers who get into one mailbox can quietly watch conversations, then send convincing “updated wiring instructions” at the worst possible moment.

Document and practice management systems.

Your document management, case management, billing, and e-discovery tools hold the firm’s most sensitive work. Permissions, backups, and access control have to be right, and the systems have to stay up when a filing deadline is hours away.

Remote and mobile practice.

Attorneys work from courthouses, client offices, and home. Each laptop, phone, and Wi-Fi connection is another way into client files.

Proactive care for workstations, servers, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, and the network, so your document and practice management systems stay available and up to date.

Cybersecurity & CMMC

Advanced email security, phishing protection, MFA, endpoint protection, encryption for sensitive communications, and monitoring from our dedicated security team, designed to support your duties under Rule 1.6(c).

vCISO / vCIO

Strategic guidance for firm leadership, including security policies, vendor review, incident response planning in line with Formal Opinion 483, and a technology roadmap that matches where the firm is headed.

Remote Support

Secure help for attorneys and staff wherever they’re working, plus safe remote access to firm resources.

We also help your team set up simple verification habits, like confirming wire instructions by phone through a known number. Process gaps are often where fraud gets through, not just technology gaps.

The concierge difference

Why Concierge IT Instead of a Typical MSP

A typical MSP sells a standard package and treats your firm like every other ticket queue. Blue Edge works differently. Founded in 2019 by Joey Police, who holds the CISSP, MCSE, and MCT credentials and has more than 30 years in IT and cybersecurity, we scope every engagement to the firm in front of us. You get senior-level security thinking, not a template.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does ABA Model Rule 1.1 say about technology?

Comment 8 to Rule 1.1 says competent representation includes keeping up with the benefits and risks of relevant technology. Most states have adopted a version of this comment. Check your own jurisdiction’s rules, since state versions vary.

What are “reasonable efforts” under Rule 1.6(c)?

The rule doesn’t list specific technologies. ABA Formal Opinion 477R describes a fact-based analysis that weighs how sensitive the information is, how likely disclosure is without more safeguards, the cost and difficulty of those safeguards, and similar factors. We help you put practical controls in place and document your reasoning.

What should a law firm do after a data breach?

ABA Formal Opinion 483 says lawyers should have a response plan, act reasonably to stop the breach and figure out what happened, and notify current clients when material client information may have been compromised. State breach notification laws may also apply. We help you prepare a plan before you need it.

How do you help prevent wire fraud at law firms?

We combine email security, MFA, mailbox monitoring, and staff training with simple out-of-band verification procedures. Together these make it much harder for a compromised email to turn into a misdirected wire.

Do you work with firms outside your home state?

Yes. We serve law firms nationwide through secure remote support, with on-site help where the engagement calls for it.

Do you offer fixed IT packages for law firms?

No. Every engagement is scoped to your firm’s size, practice areas, systems, and risks, so you’re not paying for a bundle built for someone else.
